DALLAS – West Pittston scored seven runs in the second inning to take control and defeat Wyoming/West Wyoming 13-2 in five innings Thursday night in District 31 Little League Major Baseball.


West Pittston (2-1 pool play) can clinch a spot in the double-elimination round by defeating Back Mountain National on Saturday. Wyoming/West Wyoming finished pool play at 1-3 and won’t advance.


Dominic Deluca and John Angelella each had two RBI in the second as West Pittston sent 13 batters to the plate. Pat Musinki and Derek Ambrosino each had an RBI in the inning.


West Pittston tacked on four runs in the fifth as Angelella, Chase Yochem and Jake Switzer drove in runs.


Ryan Petrucci hit a two-run homer in the third to account for Wyoming/West Wyoming’s runs.


West Side 3, Back Mtn. American 2


Steve Veske hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to send West Side to the win in walk-off fashion. Winning pitcher Jake Shusta fanned four batters in five innings. Tyler O’Kane also had an RBI for West Side (2-1), which can clinch a berth in double-elimination play with a win Saturday against Kingston/Forty Fort.


Michael Starbuck and Frankie Nickley each had a single and an RBI for American (3-1), which has qualified for double-elimination play.


DISTRICT 16


MAJOR BASEBALL


Nanticoke 13, Avoca/Dupont 3 (4 inn.)


Pitcher Austin Norton hit a home run in the winning effort for Nanticoke (4-0), which will move on to the double-elimination round.


Jared Balliet also hit a home run and Adam Eckhart had two grand slams in the third inning. Jake Krupinski went 2 for 2 with a single, double and two runs scored for Nanticoke.


Jake Roguskic had two singles and Dylan Lukachko had a double for Avoca/Dupont (1-3).


Pittston Twp. 6, Pitston City 2


Mike Nocito threw one-hitter over six innings to secure the victory and a spot in double-elimination play for Pittston Township (3-1). Brandon Savokinas broke open the game with a two-out two-run single in the fifth inning.


Steve Sciandra also had two hits as Logan Booth, Joe Cencetti, Josh Biera and Matt Cardinale Mark Ranielli all had one hit for Pittston Twp.


Jacob McCabe pitched well in defeat and had the only hit for Pittston City (1-3).
