Zachary Murphy’s second hit of the day delivered a walk-off victory in extra innings as Hanover squeaked past Pittston City 8-7 in seven innings on Saturday in the District 16 Little League 9-10 baseball tournament.

Gavin Isopi (three hits) doubled twice while Jacob Mercadante and Ashton Schiel had two hits each for Hanover.

Nikki Dennis had a big day for Pittston with two doubles and four RBI. Devin Markert had three hits.

Nanticoke 15, Duryea 3

Ethan Egenski and Colin Mackiewscz both had two-hit efforts. Nick Matson notched a win on the mound and doubled at the plate. Devyn Sura drove in two RBI.

Braden Powers and Connor Mulhern doubled for Duryea. Ryan Zapko and Ethan Masolewski each hit safely.

With the 11-hit win in four innings, Nanticoke finished 4-0 in pool play and is the top seed in the elimination bracket.

Pittston Twp. 13,

South Wilkes-Barre 3

Anthony Cencetti earned the complete game win with eight strikeouts over four innings. In addition to allowing just one hit, he also helped himself with a double.

Jace John had a hit for South Wilkes-Barre.

Mountain Top 7, Plains 5

Adam Litchkofski struck out five in the winning effort. Nick Kreuzer and Trevor Bukowski each had an RBI.

Andrew Smigiel, Sawyer Koretz, Ryan Novakowski and Braeden Cook each had RBI for Plains.



Swoyersville 4,

Back Mountain National 3

Tayler Casterline picked up the victory on the mound. Brad Gill led Swoyersville at the plate.

Mike Sholtis and Chris Killian each recorded a hit for Back Mountain National.

Kingston/Forty Fort 28,

Back Mountain American 2

KFF’s Jake Griffin doubled four times as part of a five-hit performance. Ian Bayo hit a home run and produced three hits. Cole Gorham and Kevin McNulty delivered with three hits apiece.

Logan Paczewski and Brayden Sarasino both doubled for Back Mountain American.

West Pittston 11, Northwest 1

Four West Pittston players — Nick Ross, J.J. Hood, Jake Kellaher, Max Rosen — all had two-hit outings at the plate. Jason Wiedl led the team with three base hits.

Joey Noss garnered two hits for Northwest. Landon Schuckers hit a double.



Nanticoke/Hanover 9,

Avoca/Dupont 1

Kevin Rimmer threw six scoreless innings and also hit two doubles at the plate for Nanticoke/Hanover.

Austin Gately went 2 for 4 while Aaron Kreitzer, and Sal Gurnari added hits.

Plains 2,

Duryea/Pittston Twp. 1

Winning pitcher Josh Gartley had a single and triple with two runs. Matt Monaghan, Mike Brown, Andy Lenkofsky and Jay Kozich all had hits for Plains.



Northwest 6,

Greater Wyoming Area 1

Andrew Boberick led the way for Northwest with three hits and three RBI. Zach Brucher, Tyler Harry and Reese Godfrey all had two hits apiece in the win.

Collin Barletta topped GWA with three hits.



Hanover 9, Nanticoke 8

Collin Cook (two hits) homered and E.J. Murphy had three hits as Hanover edged Nanticoke. Connor Quaglia (two hits, two runs), Shaun Gurnari (hit) and Darren Martinez (hit) chipped in while Devin Senk threw three innings of relief for the win.

Matt Bobeck hit a home run of his own for Nanticoke. Nate Kreitzer and Cody Piestrak each had two hits apiece while Tre Krupinski added one.

Hanover 11,

Avoca/Jenkins Twp./Pittston 5

Brett Stevens struck out three in six innings of work for the win and and added a double at the plate. Collin Cook (two hits), Noah Jackson (double) Andrew Morgan, Tom Mercadante and E.J. Murphy paced the Hanover offense.

Matt Costello (two hits), Riley Brody (double), Matt Romanoski and Ivan Balavage led Avoca/Jenkins/Pittston.

South Wilkes-Barre 12,

Duryea 11

Jared O’Day hit the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift South Wilkes-Barre. Nick Pugh went 2 for 2 with three RBI. Jay Deininger recorded a triple.



Northwest/Harveys Lake 21,

Kingston/Forty Fort 5

Northwest/Harveys Lake’s Brooke Martin hit a double and a triple. Amber Kocher and Hannah Kline each had two singles. Kline picked up the win with three strikeouts.

Trinity Johnson and Morgan McNew both had a single for Kingston/Forty Fort.



Duryea/Pittston Twp. 16,

Mountain Top 7

Alexis Borthwick pitched a complete game and Tiara George helped out on offense as Duryea/Pittston Township defeated Mountain Top.

Brooke Aton had two hits for Mountain Top. Reece Yenchik and Krista Papura added one each.
