On the 18th anniversary of Phylicia Thomas’ disappearance, a community came together for a virtual vigil via Facebook.

Organized by family friend Judy Lorah Fisher, folks taking part in the event were asked to light a candle on Friday, Feb. 11 in Phylicia’s memory and post it to the event’s Facebook page in order to “shine our candlelight all the way to Heaven.”

Thomas was last seen on Feb. 11 2004, when she attended a party in Hunlock Township. She is presumed dead, and her body has never been recovered. Authorities have been unable to identify her killer, and no one has come forward with any compelling testimony to help investigators find Phylicia’s remains.

Today, Phylicia would be 40. Her mother, Pauline Bailey, accepts that Phylicia is dead. Her wish is to have closure.

A video was also featured on the event page of attendees singing Pink Floyd’s 1975 single from the album of the same name, ‘Wish You Were Here’. Thomas was a massive fan of the band, and lyrical content of the song seemed a fitting tribute.

Family and friends chimed in with their candle vigils, fond memories and, nearly two decades later, lingering heartbreak and disbelief.

Tammy Lin said, “18 years ago, out beautiful little town turned into a living nightmare. I pray for closure every day. I pray that we will find you and bring you home to your family and to a proper resting place.”

Another participant, Suzanne Price said, “Prayers for justice, peace, and closure, for Phylicia Thomas and her family.”
