It was just a few short weeks ago that Pittston Area and Wyoming Area finished up their respective softball seasons.

But for three seniors, their job wasn’t done just yet.

Pittston Area’s Antoinette Scialpi drove in two runs as the East brought the West to its knees, 15-4, in the annual Robert L. Dolbear Senior All-Star softball game Friday at Kubis Memorial Field in Dallas.

Wyoming Area was represented by Kate Kross and Serra Degnan, who each saw two plate appearances and extensive time in the field.

Scialpi’s big hit came in the East’s five-run first inning, eventually building a 14-0 lead after five innings. The Pittston Area grad blasted a two-run double in the first inning to get things moving along for the West. The rest was history.

Kayley Schinski won the East MVP award after a 2-for-3 performance, including a home run and four runs scored. The West MVP was Tunkhannock’s Kristin Gilpin. Her performance was impressive, pitching the final four inning and giving up just two hits and one run.

The East got things going in the first when Schinski belted a double that shook the fence in left field. She later scored on a single by Hazleton Area’s Justine Rossi.

Nanticoke’s Allie Matulewski had singles in her first four at-bats and drove home two runs and scored three during the five-inning outburst.

Schinski later sent a rocket of the center field fence in the second inning, her first home run of the season to increase the lead to 6-0.
