Heavy rain, fog and snow are hitting the Wyoming Valley this week.

According to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service, a large storm is expected to move into the area Sunday night, and linger until Tuesday. NWS said there is still uncertainty in the forecast regarding types of precipitation, but heavy rain fall could mix with sleet and snow.

The forecast

The National Weather Service indicated it was 40 degrees as of 7:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and heavy fog was reported.

Patchy fog is expected to clear up around 11 a.m. The rest of the day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 50.

Fog returns tonight before 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy with a low around 42.

Chance of rain Sunday, mainly after 9 a.m., with patches of fog clearing up after 9 a.m. Cloudy with a high near 51.

More rain will move in Sunday night, with a low around 41. New precipitation amounts could total between a tenth and a quarter of an inch

The rain will stay through Monday, with a high near 41.

Monday night more rain possible, with a low around 37.
