Holidays bring schedule changes for services
    The following municipal services will be provided on an altered schedule
because of the holidays:
   
Avoca: Garbage will be collected Dec. 24 instead of Dec. 25 and Dec. 31
   
instead of Jan. 1Dallas: Ashes scheduled for pick-up Dec. 25 will be
collected Dec. 24. Trash and recyclables scheduled for pick-up Dec. 25 and
Jan. 1 will be collected Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
   
Also, due to the large volume of trash generated during the holidays, there
will be no bag limit beginning the week of Dec. 21 and ending Jan. 2. The
two-bag limit will resume Jan. 4.
   
Dallas Township: Trash and recyclables scheduled for pick-up Dec. 25 and
Jan. 1 will be collected Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
   
Also, due to the large volume of trash generated during the holidays, there
will be no bag limit beginning the week of Dec. 21 and ending Jan. 2. The
two-bag limit will resume Jan. 4.
   
Hanover Township: Newspapers scheduled for pick-up Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 will
be collected Dec. 28 and Jan. 4. Garbage and recyclable pick-up will remain
the same.
   
Jenkins Township: Recyclables will not be picked up the last Thursday of
the month.
   
Kingston: The municipality’s Public Works Department will be closed Dec. 25
and Jan. 1. Garbage scheduled for pick-up Dec. 25 will be picked up Dec. 23.
Garbage scheduled for collection Jan. 1 will be picked up Dec. 30. All other
pick-ups will remain the same.
   
Kingston Township: Trash and recyclables scheduled for pick-up Dec. 25 and
Jan. 1 will be collected Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

Nanticoke: Comingled recyclables will be collected Dec. 21 to 24. Garbage
and recyclables will be picked up beginning 6 a.m. Dec. 24. All 1993 garbage
stickers should be purchased and in place by Jan. 1.
   
Newport Township: Refuse pick-up in the Alden, Wanamie and Sheatown
sections of the township will follow the regular Wednesday schedule Dec. 23.
Refuse will be collected in the Glen Lyon and Lee sections at 5 a.m. Dec. 24.
   
The same schedule will be followed Dec. 30 and 31.
   
Pittston: Pittston Job Center will be closed Dec. 25. All claimants who
normally file for benefits on Friday should report at the usual time on the
following days: those with Social Security numbers ending in “8” should report
Dec. 23; those with Social Security numbers ending in “9” should report on
Dec. 24.
   
Also, garbage and recyclables will not be collected Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.
Items will be collected Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 with the regular Thursday pick-up.
   
Plains Township: Recyclables scheduled for collection Dec. 25 will be
picked up Dec. 28. Newspapers will not be collected. The January recycling
schedule will be pushed back one week. For example, recyclables scheduled for
pick-up the first Friday in January will be collected the second Friday in
January.
   
West Pittston: Recyclables will be collected 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 26 and
Jan. 2 instead of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. The following items will be accepted:
corrugated cardboard, newspaper, magazines, plastic, aluminum and tin cans.
Christmas boxes, wrap, bows, ribbon, cellophane and styrofoam will not be
accepted.
   
Wilkes-Barre: The Wyoming Valley Job Center, 32 E. Union St., will be
closed Dec. 25. All claimants who normally file for benefits on Friday should
report at the usual time on the following days: those with Social Security
numbers ending in “8” should report Dec. 21; those with Social Security
numbers ending in “9” should report on Dec. 22.
   
Wright Township: Recyclables will not be collected Dec. 26.
