Twelve local football players were named to the annual UNICO All-Star Football Classic. The game will be played at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Lake-Lehman High School Football Field
Hanover Area’s Ron Hummer and GAR’s Paul Wiedlich Jr. will coach the East team. The West will be coached by Wyoming Valley West’s Pat Keating unless the Spartans are still playing in the postseason. If they are, then Holy Redeemer’s Pat Reece will coach the team.
The West has won seven consecutive times, including a 27-14 victory last year. The game has been played annually since 1952 with the exception of 1972 when it was cancelled due to the Agnes Flood. Lake-Lehman will host the game for the first time. It has been played at six other stadiums.
Pittston Area, which finished the season 3-7, will compete on the East squad. Six members of the Patriots will play in the game.
Quarterback James Emmett, who had one of the finer seasons in the Wyoming Valley Conference, joins offensive linemen Michael Hughes and Bill Sacramastro. Hassan Maxwell made the team from his running back and linebacker positions. Wide receiver Michael Schwab and defensive end R.J. Haas, Pittston Area’s leaders, also made the team.
For Wyoming Area, six players will head to Lake-Lehman for the traditional game on the West roster. The Warriors finished this season 3-7.
The Warriors were led by Tyler Resciniti and Matt Dimick up front this season and both will represent Wyoming Area in the game. Also, Farrad Condry, Jeremy Seabridge and Mike Lumley will make the trip to Lake-Lehman. Kicker Danielle Stillarty will handle most of the kicking duties for the West.
