WILKES-BARRE – A Luzerne County jury on Wednesday acquitted a Newport
Township man charged with possessing cocaine.

Sam Okane, 55, of Rock Street, Glen Lyon, was cleared of single counts of
possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a
controlled substance.
A jury in May had deadlocked on the charges.

Police said they observed Okane getting out of his vehicle at Broody Tire
in Edwardsville in September. Police officer Harold Bond said he had previous
knowledge that Okane was not supposed to be on the property.

He followed Okane and witnessed him put 15 packets of cocaine on the porch
railing, police said.

Courtdale Councilman Charles Broody was the owner of Broody Tire. He died
of a cocaine overdose in February at his home.
