ABOUT TODAY’S SAYSO about Steve Corbett’s column on gays and lesbians, they
said that they should move out of state. … It’s because of people like them
that there’s so much hatred in the world. What difference is it to them what
sexual preference a person is? They’re not after them. What they do behind
closed doors is their business. There’s nothing wrong with it as long as you
keep it to yourself. What’s wrong with two straight people walking down the
street hugging and kissing? What’s the difference if two guys or two girls did
it? They can do it.
   
THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION is calling upon 16 nations to forgive the debt
of poor countries throughout the world, because he said that they are
positively staggering under just paying the interest. They have no money for
food and clothing and everything. Half of these nations aren’t paying their
debt anyhow. They want $700 million dollars from 16 nations to help with this
debt relief. The bulk of it, naturally, is going to come from the United
States. We recently had three missile tests in the missile defense system,
each one costing $100 million. Two of them didn’t work. They want a couple
hundred million dollars for Middle East peace, the bulk of it to go to Israel.
Of course, it always does. That’s to keep the Jewish vote intact for the
Democrats. Then, we have to contribute towards the space station. That’s going
to cost a couple hundred million dollars. Of course, the cost of the
president’s trips around the world … going to cost millions and millions.
… The other side of the coin is we have these greedy senior citizens out
there screaming for prescription drug coverage and other benefits. We have
other people screaming they’d like to have a tax cut. … When are these
people going to wise up? Let’s give up on being greedy. Let the president
spend his money the way he sees fit and if there’s any left over, then you can
have your prescription drug coverage. Don’t be so greedy.
    SOMEHOW, I GET the writer of your July 12 editorial is somehow mixing
apples and oranges and trying to confuse the issue. Red stone or no red stone,
that is the question, not whether there should be or should not be a levee. To
repeat Janet Harrington’s quote that, `recreation is not the primary reason
the dike was built,’ does not speak well for the writer. Miss Harrington’s
comment and your repeating it presumes that we residents of the valley are not
intelligent enough to know this. Editorials are fine if well thought out. I
really don’t think you thought this one out too well.
   
CAN YOU JUST imagine the maniac that’s still running the streets that did
that horrible thing to that poor puppy. I recall a guy named Jeffrey Dahmer
started out the same way by injuring animals like that. God bless that
compassionate veterinarian from Plains (Township). I hope he lives a long,
happy life.
   
HOW CAN A PLACE such as this, this Club Miami, open in a building that I
believe that is in the national historical register? What benefit does it do
any citizen of Wilkes-Barre to have this building on a national historical
register? It is basically used as a nightclub.
   
TODAY IS JULY 13, Thursday. I’d like to comment to SAYSO referring to the
arena and the area of 72 acres cleared and that tree shaped like a penguin
that’s dying and they don’t know what’s causing it. It’s not hard to figure
out. It’s cadmium, caused by tires on vehicles on the interstate. There’s no
trees to block poison of the air and it’s causing the death of your grasses
and your trees. Where’s the environmentalists?
   
THIS IS TO THE person who stated they felt we do not need a methadone
clinic here and that there’s enough crime in the area and that the methadone
clinic will bring crime to our area. The person is totally wrong. I’d like
them to point out or give one study that was done that would show that there’s
a relationship between crime and a methadone clinics. It’s wrong and it’s
unfounded. They should even look at other methadone clinics in the state in
Reading and Allentown and they’ll see that there is no crime at all in the
area.
   
I’M CALLING ABOUT the fantastic (name of town deleted) police. I had called
about a robbery in the house and their extremely fast response only took them
eight hours and 10 minutes. That’s simply marvelous.

WELL. WELL. HERE we are in Maryland trying to iron out a peace for Israel
and there they are, working against our government in laundering foreign
money.
   
THIS IS JULY 11, last evening as I watched ABC news where they had a
segment involving the NRA and triggerlocks on guns, I thought it was very
informative. And then to tell children how to fire a gun with the triggerlock
still on it, and how to bust the triggerlock so that they could use the gun. I
thought that was really nice of the NRA and ABC to let the United States know
that these things can be done, so that some child won’t have to figure it out
for himself.
   
THIS IS TO the cat hater in Wyoming Borough who has been killing stray cats
that venture onto his property for at least 10 years that I’m aware of. You
don’t have a vegetable garden or flower beds, so how much damage could a cat
do to your property that could justify shooting them?
   
ABOUT THE PIECE I read in the paper today about a new fire station that is
going to be built in Hollenback Park. Does anybody in the city know that
Hollenback Park was flooded in the ’72 flood and that’s why the fire engine
house wasn’t put there in the first place? I guess these people never learn.
   
I HAVE GRANDCHILDREN in Mackin School in the East End section of
Wilkes-Barre. I would like to know what Mr. Namey is trying to do by putting a
part-time principal up there? There are an awful lot of foreign children in
that school right now. A lot of Russian children, a lot of Indian children, a
lot of emotional children, and they want a part-time principal? We have gone
through this before. I’ve gone through it with my own children at Mackin. It
doesn’t work, Mr. Namey. Cut some of your school board expenses, like trips to
Florida and leave a full-time principal there. Ned Evans did a wonderful job.
   
READING THE DISGUSTING behavior and the permanent damage done by a grown
adult over a hockey game makes me shiver. How can we expect better from our
many youth in behaving today after the way an adults carries on? Reading the
book “Naked Ape” I believe and sometimes feel reminded that humanity is
reversing itself into a very destructive society. And after the fireworks on
July 4th evening and traffic moved slowly, and since I had to move slow, a
young punk moved to me “get out of the way you old b——.” Don’t you think
more parents need more with the boot camp? I think road courtesy is very
lacking today in road manners.
   
ANOTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT officer retires, this one in the City of Pittston.
Lands a nice cushy unadvertised job at the county for $33,000 a year. What a
pathetic county.
   
SOMEONE CALLED IN about a week ago and had a terrific idea that one of the
bus companies should start a bus trip to Knoebel’s Grove. I think that would
be a marvelous idea. I know my kids would probably go several times during the
summer and a lot of the kids that have nothing else to do would go to
Knoebel’s. Knoebel’s is great, it’s inexpensive, you don’t have to pay to
park. You don’t have to get the hand stamp if you don’t want, you just get a
few tickets and ride some rides. I think a lot of the elderly would take the
bus and go down. It’s a great place to go walk around and just enjoy the day.

CONCERNING CAMP CADET and Trooper Lakkis, I’ve known Joe for many, many
years and he is a fine person. And I believe he is a good state trooper. I
really believe the Camp Cadet program is a waste of public funds, and I think
they should take the money and use it for a real boot camp for all of these
kids in detention that do need to be told, “Straighten up, or this is what’s
going to happen to you,” not good kids from the community for propaganda.
   
POLITICS IN 2000 is still the same as before. Presidential candidate Al
Gore speaking to the NAACP members marching together, better public schools,
more affirmative action, more hate crime laws, really is sending a message of
hate himself. Why don’t politicians of the future talk about marching together
with all Americans, regardless of race and ethnicity? Only together can we
move into the next century. Al Gore should be charged with a hate crime in
dividing the races. He really believes that one man’s pain is another man’s
gain. The Democrats will do anything to win an election. Don’t be fooled.
   
IF THE ARMY boot camp instructors can yell and scream obscenities and
derogatory remarks to the recruits, I don’t see why this government should
penalize Trooper Lakkis. Maybe the kid needed some straightening out. I think
there’s a double standard here. If one agency’s employees can talk in that
manner, I don’t see why another agency’s cannot. I don’t think it’s
appropriate for anybody; but I just think it’s not fair that this man is being
persecuted for doing his job.
