George C. Brown, 84, of Washington Square Apartments in Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, in Hospice Community Care.
Born October 22, 1924, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late George C. and Ann Messmer Brown.
A 1942 graduate of Saint Nicholas High School, George later continued his education at Bucknell Junior College.
A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater.
George was a supervisor for RCA in Mountain Top for more than 20 years and, at the time of his retirement in 2005, worked for MetraHealth Insurance Company in Nanticoke.
George was a lifelong member of the Parish of Saint Therese and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
George and his high school sweetheart, Mary Pringle Brown, were married on August 3, 1946. They spent more than 57 years together before her death on March 26, 2004.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jared Brown, who died March 12, 2003; and sisters Rita Buckley and Mary Blankenship.
George will be remembered for his patience and sense of humor, and for being a friend to all who knew him.
Surviving are his children, Mary and her husband, Barry Payne, of Wilkes-Barre; Linda and her husband, Michael Ciechoski, of Wilkes-Barre; George and his wife, Marianne Brown, of Wilkes-Barre; and Donald Brown, of Plains; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from McLaughlin Family Funeral Service, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Church of Saint Therese. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township. Friends may call Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
