John “Doc” Blanchard, Duryea, died April 27, 2009 at home.
A lifelong resident of Duryea, he was born Oct. 24, 1933, a son of the late John and Anna Matt Blanchard. Doc was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Duryea, a 1952 graduate of Duryea High School and served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. He was retired from Topps Chewing Gum, Duryea and Scranton, and was last employed at Family Prescription Counter in Duryea as a Pharmaceutical driver.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph; and sisters Anna Lacomis, who passed April 23, 2009; Margaret Nevorski; Catherine Doxbeck; Dorothy Skurjunis; and Ruth Griffin.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Mary McGlynn Blanchard; son John, of Fort Worth, TX; daughter Janine and her husband, Joseph Rizzo, of Willow Grove; grandchildren, Shannon, Kyle and Zachary; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were April 29 from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Duryea. Interment St. John’s Cemetery, Duryea. Military Honors provided by the V.F.W. Post 1227, Duryea.
