Martha “Joan” Patts of Dallas passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010, at her residence.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank T. Patts.

Joan was born on June 8, 1935, in the Hanover section of Nanticoke and was a daughter of the late Russell and Mary Panaway Zeedock. She was a member of St. Frances Cabrini R.C. Church, Dallas.

Joan was always a wife and mother first but worked outside the home intermittently. She had been employed by various garment factories, and prior to her retirement, was food service manager in the Dallas School District.

In her retirement, she traveled with her beloved husband extensively, having taken tours in Europe, including Poland, Germany, and the Alps; also Alaska, Hawaii, and numerous cruises to various islands. She especially enjoyed cruises with Stanky and the Coal Miners in which she and her husband did what they loved and did well – Polka dance. Also, she and her husband made two complete tours of the entire United States in their RV, which was a lifelong dream.

Joan enjoyed entertaining their children, grandchildren and close friends on holidays and weekend get-togethers. Her hospitality is legendary to those who knew her. She had a great sense of humor, and few could match her cooking ability. It can truly be said that Joan was “the hostess with the mostess.”

Surviving are daughter Joan Petro and husband Mike, Hunlock Creek; sons Frank Jr. and wife Effie, Sugar Notch; Russell and wife Billie, Hudson; Robert, Hanover Township; twins Joseph and wife Sharon, Harding, and James and companion Dina Simone, Pittston. There are 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also, sisters Vivienne Wallace, Sugar Notch, and Elaine Tanski, Upper Askam; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc. 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with a Mass of Christian Burial from the St. Frances Cabrini Church in Carverton at 10 a.m. Entombment will be held at Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m.
