Lackawanna College locked up a spot in the NJCAA Division II women’s basketball national tournament Saturday with a 73-65 victory over Community College of Rhode Island in New Rochelle, N.Y. The Lady Falcons moved to the final of the District N-O Playoffs, which advance two teams to nationals March 20-24 in Peoria, Ill. MEN’S BASKETBALL Lackawanna fell one game short of nationals when it was defeated by CC of Rhode Island, 97-63, in the District 11 championship game at Warwick, R.I. Stephon Coleman had 15 points while Vincent Roux, Javon White and Antione Hackman had 11 each for the Falcons. DeAndre Albritton had 10 assists. BASEBALL Blaine O’Brien’s no-hitter highlighted a big day for the Keystone College baseball team. O’Brien threw a no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over Penn State-Behrend and the Giants later defeated Alvernia College, 5-2, in a battle of nationally ranked teams in Fort Pierce, Fla. The Giants, ranked 14th, improved to 4-1. O’Brien tossed the first Keystone no-hitter since Jeremy Pierson in 2005. He struck out 11 and walked three. Miguel Castano, who had two hits, and Brian Del Rosso drove in the runs. Rob Rogers worked six scoreless innings and Frank Mormino had three hits against 20th-ranked Alvernia. In other action, Neumann University edged the University of Scranton, 5-3 and 3-2, in a doubleheader at Fort Myers, Fla. Mike Umerich, a freshman from Abington Heights, singled in a run to force a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning of the second game. WOMEN’S LACROSSE Lebanon Valley College handed Marywood University its first loos, 10-9. Diana D’Achille scored four goals and Lauren Indelicato forced eight turnoers for the Pacers (3-1). MEN’S LACROSSE Nicholas Cornella made 16 saves to lead Marywood to its first win, 10-9, over Greensboro College in North Carolina. Sam Trill had three goals and two assists in the win. SOFTBALL Keystone opened its season with two wins in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Giants downed Hilbert College, 7-4, and Johnson State, 11-2. Sara Schraden pitched three scoreless innings of relief, giving up just one hit while striking out three to take the win in the opener. Abby Cohen and Lisa Ostrander had two extra-base hits each. Cohen had a home run, a double, two runs and two RBI. Ostrander had two doubles. Keystone had 13 hits while ending the second game early on the Mercy Rule.
