From the Wilkes-Barre area: Take Route 309 (North Cross-Valley Expressway) north to Dallas. At the Dallas Shopping Center bear right on 309 and go through Beaumont. After Nulton’s Funeral Home, stay on 309 and take the first left. Go to the stop sign and turn left onto Rte. 29. Go about 3 miles to the next stop sign (in Noxen) and turn right. Cross the metal bridge and turn left. Fire hall is on right; follow signs to powwow parking area.

From the Scranton area: Take I-81 north to Route 6. Bear right off the ramp and continue on Route 6 to Tunkhannock. Turn left onto Route 29 and follow it south to into Noxen. At the stop sign in Noxen, turn right, cross the metal bridge and turn left. Fire hall is on right; follow signs to powwow parking area.

The Ninth Annual Mothers Day Intertribal Powwow with free admission will be held Mothers Day weekend, May 10-11, at the Noxen Fire Co. grounds on Stull Road, Noxen, Wyoming County.

The event, which honors all mothers, is a gathering for all people. Vendors’ set-up day is Friday, May 9. All dancers and vendors must register before setting up.

The Circle opens at 10 a.m. both days with storytelling by Grace Dove. Grand Entry of all dignitaries and dancers in full regalia will start at noon. Circle hours are noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Parking and admission are free and the event is handicapped accessible.

Richard Gray Owl Greene will serve as emcee. Head Male Dancer is Bob Turkey Dancer Brown, while Head Female Dancer is Kandra Wind Dancer Brown. Drums will include Otter Creek Singers, Eagle Thunder and One Heart.

The event will feature Native American dancing, drumming, storytelling, children’s dances, fry bread by Carolyn, crafts, beadwork, leatherwork, books, CDs, jewelry, beads and beading supplies, t-shirts, blankets, food by the Noxen Fire Co. and much more. A Sloppy Joe “Wimpie”contest will be held Friday evening and is free to enter, with the winner receiving a cash prize.

Meals will be provided for dancers and vendors; the Saturday evening meal is potluck. Please bring a dish to share. In an effort to keep mother earth clean please bring your own place setting: plate, bowl, spoon, fork, etc. Wash stations will be available.

Camping is allowed but electricity is limited and costs $7 per day. No camping spaces will be reserved; spaces are assigned on a first come first served basis.

Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and cleaned up after at all times. Bring your own lawn chair.

Alcohol, drugs, guns and politics of any kind are not allowed. The committee has the right to remove anyone.
