Joy Szuhay, 83, of Clarks Summit, died Monday, Dec. 13, in Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, East Scranton. She was the widow of Dr. Joseph A. Szuhay, who died in 1992. The couple had been married more than 46 years.
Born Feb. 12, 1927, in Painesville, Ohio, daughter of the late Frank and Sigrid Hervey Youppi, she was reared in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. She attended Lake Erie College for Women, Painsville, and the University of Iowa, Iowa City. She had been employed as a secretary at the University of Iowa and Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Clarks Summit. Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Brooke J. Cannon; and two granddaughters, Jaye and Linnea Cannon, Clarks Summit; nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Noel Joy Szuhay and Paige Szuhay; a sister, Lillian Hubbard; and two brothers, Raymond and J. Robert Ollila.
The memorial service will be at a later date in Painsville. Interment, Riverside Cemetery, Painesville.
