WILKES-BARRE — Police seized steel beams and sheets stolen from the Sidney Street bridge project, according to a search warrant served on a Plains Township property.

The warrant, filed Thursday in Luzerne County Court, was issued Monday by District Judge Joseph Zola of Hazleton for a property on New Street.

Seized were five pieces of steel I-beams and two pieces of flat steel, according to the inventory sheet accompanying the warrant.

In applying for the warrant, police said: The construction supervisor of the bridge project received information about the theft that occurred between July 23 and 24. The tipster said he saw a man load the steel into the back of a pickup truck and provided an address for the suspect. The construction supervisor drove to the address on New Street and from the roadway saw the stolen items in the yard. He accompanied city police to the property at approximately 5 p.m. Monday. They saw the items in the driveway area of the yard and some of the steel was covered by tarps. Police were unsuccessful in their attempts to contact the property owner. They returned to the property again that night and seized the items.

No charges have been filed in the theft case.
