WILKES-BARRE — Luzerne County is the latest to seek payment from CityVest over the failed development of the former Hotel Sterling.

The county Tuesday filed a complaint in county court after obtaining a $6.5 million judgment against CityVest for default on a loan to develop the landmark hotel that was demolished last year due to deterioration.

The judgment is separate from the $569,112 default judgment Wilkes-Barre obtained against the non-profit development corporation to secure the building, detour traffic around it and later demolish it. The city said it is not attempting to collect payment from CityVest and instead will move to obtain the property through a sheriff’s sale.
