WILKES-BARRE — A natural gas leak in the area of West River and South Streets resulted in traffic being restricted in the area briefly this morning.
The natural gas leak happened when a contractor hit a line somewhere in the area. Wilkes-Barre Police initially blocked off traffic access to West Ross Street and West River Street, but traffic was able to enter West Ross Street a little after 10 a.m. Crews still blocked all traffic from entering West River Street.
The Wilkes-Barre Fire Department and UGI Utilities also responded to the scene. A fire official did not believe that the leak required any evacuations.
