KINGSTON — An alleged drunken driver struggled with officers when he was arrested in his driveway early Wednesday.

Police said they spotted Brian Sidney Sokoloski, 41, passing through a stop sign at James Street and Rutter Avenue at about 2:28 a.m. Sokoloski turned onto Rutter Avenue, sped away at a high rate of speed, and turned onto Pierce Street, Wyoming Avenue, and East Hoyt Street before turning onto North Landon Avenue and stopping in his driveway, according to arrest records.

Police said Sokoloski got out of his vehicle and headed toward his house. He initially refused commands to sit back in his vehicle, police allege.

Police said when Sokoloski did return to his vehicle, he kept his feet on the ground and it appeared like he was going to run. At one point, Sokoloski stood up and allegedly shoved an officer.

A second officer stunned Sokoloski with a Taser, but it had no effect. Sokoloski was later handcuffed after a struggle with three officers, a complaint states.

Police allege there was a marijuana odor emitting from Sokoloski’s vehicle, and a pipe with marijuana residue was found.

A breath test allegedly showed Sokoloski’s alcohol level was .195 percent.

An adult driver in Pennsylvania is considered legally intoxicated at .08 percent.

Sokoloski was arraigned in Luzerne County Central Court on two counts of driving under the influence, and one count each of resisting arrest, harassment and two traffic citations. He was jailed at the county lockup for lack of $5,000 bail.
