Taxpayers urged to voice their concerns

Property owners angry about their tax bills have to stop complaining in
private, said Vicki Mackin, of the Concerned Citizens of Schuylkill CountyIt’s
not too late to fight high taxes. Write to legislators about your feelings and
concerns. Voice your opinions at school board meetings. Educate yourself about
how the school board makes decisions.
McAdoo, East Union and Kline townships in Schuylkill County are in the
Hazleton Area School District. Beaver Meadows and Banks Township, in Carbon
County, also are part of the Hazleton district.

“If people really want to make a difference and are tired of paying more
taxes because of teachers’ salaries, they need to get input to senators,”
Mackin said.

Or, residents who care can run for school board seats, Mackin said.

The YMCA/YWCA and the League of Women Voters of the Greater Hazleton Area
are sponsoring workshops about the role of a school board on Sept. 17. The
workshop, which costs $5, is being held to enlighten voters and taxpayers and
encourage qualified residents to consider running for school board, said
league member Mary Bigelow.
