Ciavarella running for Hanover Twp. board
   
Frank J. Ciavarella, a former two-term commissioner, is seeking a seat on
the
    Hanover Township Board of CommissionersCiavarella, who used to own and
operate the Villa Cocktail Lounge in Lee Park, now runs an automobile
dealership.
   
A resident of Hanover Township for 37 years, Ciavarella serves as the
Fourth District Republican Chairman for Luzerne County. He is also a member of
the Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority, American Legion Post 609, Amvets
Post 59. Ciavarella served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
   
Ciavarella’s says he plans to be a “watchdog for the citizens of Hanover
Township.” He intends to fight to allow residents to choose private garbage
haulers and to control wasteful spending.
   
Sipper seeks re-election to Hanover Twp. board
   
John Sipper is seeking re-election to the Board of Commissioners in Hanover
Township. He lives in the township’s Hanover Green section.
   
Sipper is a life member of the Hanover Township Community Ambulance Unit;
financial secretary of the Ambulance Association Board of Governors; member of
the Hanover Green Goodwill Hose Company No. 1; and belongs to the Hanover
Township Fire Police. !!cq!!
   
He is also a member of the Hanover Township Lions Club, St. Mary’s Nativity
Church and the Council 984 Knights of Columbus.
   
Luba runs for new term as tax collector
   
Millie Luba is seeking re-election to the position of tax collector in
Hanover Township.
   
A lifelong resident of the township, graduated from Hanover Memorial High
School in 1965, and now lives with her husband in the Hanover Green section.
   
Luba began working in the tax office in 1975, as an assistant to tax
collector Samuel Sorber, then under John Marut. She won election to the post
in 1989.
   
A longtime community servant, Luba is a certified emergency medical
technician instructor for Luzerne County Emergency Services and a CPR
instructor for the American Heart Association. She has been a member of the
Hanover Township Community Ambulance Unit for 23 years and provided medical
services for the Hanover Area Mini Hawk football program for 16 years.
   
Kearns runs for term on Wyoming Area board
   
Thomas M. Kearns has announced he will be a candidate for re-election as a
School Board member in the Wyoming Area School District.
   
Kearns, appointed to the board in 1990 and elected to his first term in
1993, has served as president of the board, chairman of the Education
Committee, and chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee. He is past
president of the Football Parents Association, set designer for the Drama
Club, and assists the Warrior Band in the design of its competitive program.
   
While school board president in 1994, he oversaw the initiation of a school
construction program at the Secondary Center, the John F. Kennedy Elementary
School and the Sarah J. Dymond Elementary School.
   
He is a graduate of West Pittston High School and Penn State University
with a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering. He is a registered
architect in several states and a professional engineer.
   
Pittston Area group to meet on election
   
The campaign committee of School Board candidates Tony Rostock, William J.
Balchune and Augie Piazza will meet at the Mo Ritz restaurant on Main Street
in Duryea at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the upcoming School Board election.
