West Wyoming Borough Council has instituted a Junior Council Person (JCP) Program.


This program seeks to encourage high school age borough residents to participate in the workings of their local government by becoming a Junior Councilperson. The borough is looking for a student to serve a 2-year term as a representative of the youth of the municipality, to bring forth issues and information from their perspective.


The term will begin January 2014. Candidates for the office souldl submit a written application to Borough Council with a one-page cover letter highlighting the applicant’s interest in the position and a letter of recommendation from a Social Studies/History instructor. After considering all submissions, Borough Council shall appoint a student at a regularly-scheduled meeting.


The Junior Councilperson shall be a resident of West Wyoming Borough and a student in his/her junior year of high school. The Junior Councilperson shall be sworn in upon appointment and take an “oath of office.” The Junior Councilperson will not receive compensation and will be permitted to attend all meetings of Council.


The person must participate fully in those proceedings, except that he/she shall not be afforded the right to vote and shall not be permitted to attend executive sessions.
