During the Lenten season, five local Catholic parishes in the Greater Pittston Area host THE ROAD TO RESURRECTION which provides our people an opportunity to pray together at Mass on five consecutive Wednesdays. The host pastor invites a priest known for his ability to preach a challenging sermon. This was the seventeenth year for this very uplifting experience for all who were in attendance.

This past Lent, St. Maria Goretti in Laflin, Sacred Heart in Dupont, St. Joseph Marello in Pittston, Queen of the Apostles in Avoca and St. John the Evangelist in Pittston welcomed hundreds of the faithful to their parishes, in most cases filling the church to capacity.

An offering is received and given to a charity of the parish’s choice. In all cases, the collection was given to the CARE AND CONCERN MINISTRIES which provides a Free Health Clinic, a Food Pantry, a Kids Clothes Closet and a Free Pediatric Health Clinic.

On behalf of the hundreds of truly needy persons who were beneficiaries of these donations, the parish of St. John the Evangelist, which sponsors these ministries in the former Seton Catholic High School, extends its heartfelt gratitude to all who are so very generous in their support. We also thank the many other churches and individuals and organizations who go out of their way to sacrifice on behalf of those who are less fortunate. May God bless us all.

Gratefully,

Msgr. John J. Bendik, Pastor

St. John the Evangelist Parish Community
