WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Chris Carney, D-Dimock, Wednesday was assigned a seat on two subcommittees of the House Transportation and Infrastructure.
Carney will serve on the Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management along with the Highways and Transit subcommittees.
“I requested the Highways subcommittee so that I could work to secure funding for the Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation project, an ongoing project that is extremely important to Central Pennsylvania and will address the current and future transportation needs of the (state) Route 15 corridor,” he said.
WILKES-BARRE – The Leadership Wilkes-Barre Alumni Council and Geisinger Wyoming Valley will honor Larry Newman at Leadership Wilkes-Barre’s annual cocktail party, which will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Westmoreland Club.
Newman, the vice president of economic and community development for the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry, will be recognized for his outstanding contributions to the community. The event is open to the public and will cost $35 per person. Live entertainment will be provided by Mystique. HARRISBURG – State Senate Democratic Leader Robert J. Mellow on Wednesday appointed senators to serve as Democratic chairmen for legislative committees for the next session.
Among the appointments, state Sen. Raphael Musto of Pittston Township was named chairman of the education and environmental resources and energy committees. Musto’s district is in parts of Carbon, Luzerne and Monroe counties.
Mellow, of Peckville, will chair the ethics and official conduct and the rules and executive nominations committees.
WILKES-BARRE – An open call for the cast of the human-interest comedy “Art” will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre, 537 N. Main St.
