TUNHANNOCK – Tunkhannock was 40 minutes from pulling off an upset over Wyoming Valley West in boys soccer on Monday after a first-half goal by Cody Bevan, but the Spartans came back with three unanswered tallies in the second half to pull out the 3-1 victory.
Joe Schmid scored twice for the Spartans, while Brandon D’Angelo also scored.
Tom Damiani assisted on Bevan’s goal.

The Trojans were on the brink of elimination losing the first two games, but rebounded to win the final three and pick up the victory. The scores were 20-25, 21-25, 25-5, 25-9, 15-7.
Leading the way for the Trojans was Kelsey Yohey, who tallied 21 kills, three aces and two blocks.
Amy Robocheski (32 assists, 6 kills, 4 aces) and Morgan Thomas (11 kills, 6 assists, 2 blocks) also helped Nanticoke.
Brittany Hess and Sarah Martin had huge defensive performances for the Crusaders with 50 and 55 digs, respectively.

All of Wyoming Valley West’s scorers earned medalist honors by shooting 45s at Irem Temple Country Club (par 36).
Those scorers for the Spartans were Steve Brand, Tim Kuscavage, Pat Brady and Joe Haley.
For Nanticoke, Chris Buchanan led the way with a 46, while Jared Kmietowicz and Rob James fired 51s and Tom Redemski scored 58.
Pittston Area 160, Meyers 208
Brandon Matthews fired 1-under par 35 at Fox Hill Country Club to lead the Patriots.
He was followed closely by Keanu Sorbelli’s 36. Josh Horton carded 44 for the Patriots, while Marco Daniels rounded out the team’s scoring with a 45.
For Meyers, Mike Smith (46), John Lisman (49), Matt Manarski (56) and Robert Lehnert and Alex Ziggler (57s) all scored.
