    John J. Krugel, 80, of Hemlock Street in Wilkes-Barre Township, died
Saturday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center,
Wilkes-BarreBorn July 12, 1918, a life resident of Wilkes-Barre Township, he
was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Kigolis) Krugel.
   
He was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School, class of 1935, and
attended Wilkes College.
   
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater,
where he received three Bronze Stars.
   
He was formerly employed by the Armour & Co. and later by the U.S. Postal
Service in Wilkes-Barre, retiring in 1981.
   
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Friary, Wilkes-Barre Township; a charter
member of American Legion Post 815, Wilkes-Barre Township; and former past
commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 50. He was also active as a blood
donor for the American Red Cross for many years.
   
He and his wife, the former Lucille R. Gottlieb, celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary on July 31, 1998.
   
He was preceded in death by brothers, Vincent and Charles Krugel; and
sister, Anna Solack.
   
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Joseph P. Krugel,
Wilkes-Barre Township; daughters, Karen Nat, Lake Ariel; Kristine Albert,
Kingston; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
   
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral
Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30
a.m. in St. Joseph’s Friary.
   
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
   
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A Christian Vigil
Service will be at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Raymond J. Lynch officiating.
   
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Unit of
the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.—–
