Olivia Butkiewicz, 23, is an artist from Plymouth who’s art will be featured on Nov. 19, in the “RAW: Current” Exhibition at Philadelphia’s Trocadero Theater, 1003 Arch St.

The “RAW: Current” is a worldwide organization that gives up-in-coming artists the chance to exhibit their work. The featured artists in each show represent a variety of art mediums including fashion design, make-up, art, photography and music. Along with her 10 to 12 paintings, Butkiewicz will have some smaller craft items at the show, including some ornaments for the upcoming holiday season.

“I don’t know what to expect until I get to Philadelphia, but I am super excited,” Butkiewicz said. “I hope those in the art community from the area come out to see the exhibit.”

Butkiewicz received her associate’s degree in Commercial Painting and Illustration from Luzerne County Community College. Her art was shown in the 2014 Alumni/Faculty show and was awarded Honorable Mention for one of her oil paintings. She continued her education and received her bachelor’s degree from Lock Haven University. At Lock Haven, Butkiewicz was presented with a Best in Show Award at the 2013 Juried Student Exhibition.

Butkiewicz is working on her portfolio to apply to schools to earn her master’s degree in hopes of becoming a college professor.

“I have a few in mind, such as NYAA, UPENN, Temple and Pratt,” Butkiewicz said. “I am keeping my options open though.”

Butkiewicz’s art is mixed media art. This refers to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media. Her pieces include oil with watercolors and watercolors with ink and marker.

“My art is about self discovery of emotion shown through art using color theory,” Butkiewicz said. “It is dominated by a bright color palette.”

Two pieces of Butkiewicz’s work can be seen hanging in the Crimson Lion Hookah Lounge in Downtown Wilkes-Barre.

Butkiewicz’s work can be seen on her Facebook page: L.Sweets Industries. Information on the exhibit can be found at www.rawartist.org.
