The Italian American Association of Luzerne County will observe the upcoming Columbus Day holiday with several programs.
The group will honor Christopher Columbus with a ceremony 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Luzerne County Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre. Attorney Joseph J. Musto will deliver the principal address. The public is invited. Michael Delconte is president of the IAALC.
The 31st annual Columbus Day Banquet will take place Sunday at Convention Hall, Pittston Township. Dr. Joseph M. Lombardo has been chosen as the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Arnold Romaldini will be honored as the IAALC 2008 Person of the Year. District Attorney Jacqueline Musto Carroll will be the guest speaker.
Cocktails will be at 5 p.m. with a cash bar; dinner will be at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30; call Louise Castellani at 654-6454 or Judy Deice at 654-7600. Reservations are required; the public is invited.
Musto served as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas and has practiced as a principal of Griffith, Aponick & Musto, a partner in Rosenn, Jenkins and Greenwald and principal in Hourigan, Kluger & Quinn and Musto & Saunders. He serves full time as a mediator and arbitrator for private litigants in his law office in Plymouth.
Musto resides in Duryea with his wife, attorney Fortunata Musto. They have two children, Laura and Joseph Robert, and two grandchildren, Olivia and Joseph Robert Jr.
Lombardo is a decorated Army veteran. He began his medical practice 40 years ago in the greater Pittston area, and instituted the Department of Family Practice at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he was chief from 1971 to 1985. He was the first full-time emergency room doctor at General. He has numerous professional accomplishments and awards, including being elected to the General Hospital’s Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service. He and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Smith Lombardo, have been married for 45 years and have eight children: Michael, Joseph, James, John (deceased), Lisa, Francis, Michelle and Robert; and 13 grandchildren.
Romaldini has had a lengthy career in the automotive industry. He is a member of several organizations including the National Automobile Dealer Association and The American Imported Auto Dealers Association and was the area district dealer representative for numerous automobile manufacturers. He is married to Elena De Simone of Naples, Italy. He has five children by his first wife, the late Joan Urban, and seven grandchildren, two stepchildren and several stepgrandchildren.
Carroll has been a practicing attorney since 1985. After many years serving as assistant district attorney, she was sworn in as the first female DA in Luzerne County in January. She and her husband of 23 years, Timothy Carroll, are the parents of Timothy Jr., John and Gerard.
