Will the Democrats blow the election in November? It could happen.
Republican contenders John McCain and Sarah Palin appeal to the far right wing, and we know from experience what that means. Their so-called family values do anything but bring people together, because our family relations must not be based on fear.
Republicans of the far right believe the following:
• Teach abstinence only and hide the rest when teaching sex education in public school.
• The destruction of the environment is not done by humans; it is God’s will. So take no responsibility for the environment and healing the planet.
• Make abortion illegal in the case of incest or rape; dismiss the woman and tacitly approve the “choice” to rape or molest her, allowing her soul to die a spiritual death through no fault of her own.
• Teach creationism as an equal alternative to evolution in our public schools, though one is based in mythology and the other in science.
• Hold the so-called high moral ground that stem cell research using live embryos is not acceptable, thus giving no “choice” to those who suffer and die. Save the soul of the embryo and kill the soul of the woman.
It is no surprise that McCain and Palin are listening to the cries of right-wing conservatives. McCain is following in the footsteps of President George W. Bush, who has been placating the far right since he took office.
Democrats must band together and support the Obama/Biden ticket, returning to the values that the party represents.
Hillary Clinton’s followers need to change their course. A true fan of Hillary’s will listen to what Sen. Clinton has asked of us and get a Democrat back into the White House by supporting Obama and Sen. Joe Biden.
