Susan Walters and Joshua Reissig were united in marriage in a candlelight ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church of Wilkes-Barre, by the Rev. Dr. Robert Zanicky, pastor.
The bride is the daughter of Gary and Nancy Walters, Shavertown. She is the granddaughter of the late Harry and Jane West, formerly of Plymouth, and the late Quentin “Cap” and Bette Walters, formerly of Dallas.
The groom is the son of Deborah Reissig, Atlanta, Ga., and David Reissig, St. Louis, Mo. He is the grandson of the late Rev. Frederick and Caroline Reissig and the late William and Rebecca Bennett, formerly of Rochester, N.Y.
The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father. She chose her childhood friend, Jennifer B. Welby, Dallas, as her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Megan Tribendis, Shavertown, cousin of the bride, and Jessica Reissig, Atlanta, Ga., sister of the groom. Including a Southern tradition, her “House Party” were high school and college friends, Laura C. Richards, Dallas; Theresa D. Sparacio, Forty Fort; Kristen Van Scoy, Kingston; and Germaine Glaser, Columbia, Md. Flower girls were Elena, Jenna, Kate and Lauren Walters, nieces of the bride. Ring bearer was Silas Walters, nephew of the bride, all from Wyoming.
The groom chose his high school friend, Mike Worden, Atlanta, Ga., as his best man. Groomsmen were Scott Walters, Wyoming, brother of the bride, and Rob Auer, Lisbon, Ohio, college friend of the groom.
Scripture readings were given by Erin Fitzgerald, Atlanta, Ga., friend of the bride, and Brian Shopmeyer, Raleigh, N.C., college friend of the groom. Guests listened to a 1977 recording of the bride’s grandmother singing her favorite hymn during the unity candle ceremony. It was a tribute to all of their grandparents.
An evening cocktail hour and reception were hosted by the bride’s parents at the Fox Hill Country Club, Exeter. A flash mob dance entitled “Glad You Came” was arranged with 40 guests to surprise the happy couple. The celebration continued with an “afterglow” at the Hilton Garden Inn, Wilkes-Barre. The bride was honored at a bridal shower given by her mother and her bridesmaids at The Cafe, Wilkes-Barre. The rehearsal dinner, given by the parents of the groom, was held at Grico’s, Exeter. The couple were the guests of honor at a dinner party hosted by the groom’s mother and sister in Atlanta, Ga.
The bride is a graduate of Lake-Lehman High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from the University of Pittsburgh. She lived and worked in Australia, Ireland and New York City before moving to Atlanta. She was a media supervisor at Turner Broadcasting. Susan recently returned to college to pursue a career in healthcare and was accepted into the Occupational Therapy Assistant program in Atlanta, Ga.
The groom is a graduate of Honeoye Falls-Lima High School, New York. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy from the University at Buffalo. He is employed as an occupational therapist for Atlanta Medical Center, Atlanta, Ga.
The newlyweds enjoyed a honeymoon in Spain for two weeks before returning to Atlanta, Ga., where they reside.
