The RailRiders dropped their record to 31-39 after a 4-3 loss to Rochester on Tuesday night at PNC Field. With the loss, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre franchise is eight games under .500 for the first time since Aug. 30, 2005. The franchise hasn’t been nine games under .500 since June 21, 2005.
RailRiders at the plate: Randy Ruiz and J.R. Murphy each went deep for their first home runs as a RailRider accounting for two of the team’s six hits. Cody Grice laced a run-scoring single for the other runs-coring hit for SWB.
RailRiders on the mound: After a rough beginning to Brett Marshall’s start when he gave up four runs in the first two innings, he settled down not giving up anymore in his six innings of work. Francisco Rondon threw the last three innings allowing two hits and one walk, while fanning one.

Riding the Rails: With New York’s Mark Teixeira hitting the disabled list, switch-hitting outfielder Zoilo Almonte earned the call-up to the Majors. Adam Warren, who was on the RailRiders’ roster but didn’t see any action, was recalled to New York and right-hander Chris Bootcheck was designated for assignment. Taking Warren’s roster spot, left Francisco Rondon was promoted from Trenton. There was no immediate move made to replace Almonte’s spot on the roster.
Equipment drive on Saturday: Prior to Saturday’s split doubleheader, the RailRiders will hold a drive for gently-used baseball equipment. SWB hosts Norfolk at 12:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. Bins will be set up at PNC Field’s front gates prior to the each game and will be available until the third inning of each contest. Adult equipment received will be shipped to soldiers in Afghanistan, while the youth equipment will be donated throughout Northeast Pennsylvania.
