Our weekly look at the work of RailRiders president Rob Crain, who has given us back our baseball — with a side order of promotions and entertainment.

BEST OF THE WEEK: Not many .200 hitters are of interest to fans. Future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter … he’s of interest. Jeter set a career high in rehab stints in NEPA, returning this week to face the PawSox. Let’s get him a place in Glenmaura and pencil him into the three-hole in the 2014 batting order.

MISSED OPPORTUNITY: For the first time in a long time, the playoffs are a long shot at best. September winner-take-all games are great. We’ll be looking forward to them again in 2014.

COMING UP: Fan Appreciation Nights on Wednesday and Thursday against rival Lehigh Valley round out the PNC Field slate. Kids eat free Wednesday and there’s fireworks for Thirsty Thursday.

Opening Day 2014 is Thursday, April 10, against the Syracuse Chiefs, the top farm team of the Washington Nationals.
