Neighbors can help make Book of Dreams a reality

HELP US EXTEND a helping hand to your neighbors.

Each autumn The Times Leader asks the community to send us the names of area individuals and families who deserve extra support. From those nominations, about a dozen people are selected to be featured in The Book of Dreams – the newspaper’s annual holiday fundraising project.

Articles spotlighting the Book of Dreams participants and explaining their hardships will be published in the newspaper between Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. Readers are asked to contribute money to a special fund maintained by The Luzerne Foundation. If enough donations are received by the foundation, the money is used to purchase the featured families’ “dream items.”

Prior participants have requested and received items such as therapeutic toys, medical devices, new furniture, clothing and other gifts.

Times Leader employees volunteer to shop for, wrap and deliver the items. In the past, several businesses also have contributed to the project by generously offering to donate items or supply them at reduced cost. (The Book of Dreams does not provide participants with homes, vehicles or cash.)

Kindly consider the people in your life – casual acquaintances, co-workers and friends – who might be dealing this year with unusual circumstances: a child’s severe illness, a house fire, military deployment, disease, financial setback. Then take a few minutes to fill out the form below and mail it to The Times Leader office.
