A BIG THANK YOU to all veterans out there. Your bravery and commitment to serve this country enable Americans to enjoy our freedoms.
Plenty of stores and restaurants are offering veterans and current members of the military sweet deals this week in honor of Veterans Day, which is Wednesday.
Veterans can eat good in the neighborhood. And do it for free. Applebee’s is offering a selection of six entres for free to military personnel or veterans with valid ID, including a veterans organization card, a photograph of you in uniform or if you wear your uniform. The deal is available Wednesday. For more information, or to find out what the choices are, go here: http://applebees.com/vetsDay/default.aspx.
Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is offering half off lunch or dinner at the Timbers Buffet for veterans with proper ID.
Mount Airy Casino near Mount Pocono is holding a special program displaying military memorabilia, weapons and vehicles from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. A Huey helicopter, M1A1 Abrams tank, a hammerhead TOW missile carrier and a 1966 Mule will be among the items on display.
Head to Sam’s Club, whether you’re a member or not, on Veterans Day and perhaps you can receive one of a limited number of free Hugo canes. The company has provided 25,000 to be distributed free of charge to United States military veterans in need of mobility assistance. A valid proof of military service is required and supplies per store are limited.
Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse offers a 10 percent discount for retired and active duty military all year ’round; you just have to ask the cashier for it and present a military ID card.
Al’s Hardware & Software House in Kingston is catering to active service members and veterans between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday. You must pay in cash to get the deal, which offers buyers the chance to purchase any brand of select new computers, displays and printers at dealer invoice plus applicable shipping, handling and taxes. Call the store at 288-3455 for complete details.
These deals are in honor of Veterans Day but they’re for everyone to take advantage of. The Bass and Izod stores at The Crossings Premium Outlets in Tannersville have almost all merchandise 50 percent off through Wednesday. Bass is then offering an additional 10 to 30 percent off on some items. Izod is offering an additional 10 to 50 percent off the already half-off items.
Whether you take advantage of these offers or not, take a few minutes to reflect on what veterans have done for you and our country.
If you know a veteran, take a minute or two to offer him or her a few words of praise on Wednesday. It’s the least we could do.
