Diocese shouldn’t shun tradition of union support

Having been associated with Catholic schools as a teacher and parent, I honor the extent to which tradition is valued in Catholic education.

G.K. Chesterton said: “Tradition means giving votes to the most obscure of all classes, our ancestors. It is the democracy of the dead. Tradition refuses to submit to that arrogant oligarchy who merely happen to be walking around.”

In that context, we would do well to reflect on what our children’s great-great-grandparents might have to say about a diocese that rejects worker organization as a matter of principle.
