Businesses and citizens across America are opening their hearts and wallets to aid our fellow countrymen in Texas and Florida.
Wal-Mart, the NFL, the American Red Cross and the Diocese of Scranton, to name a few, are all raising funds for the unfortunate victims of the two recent hurricanes.
The U.S. Senate approved billions of dollars of aid for victims of Hurricane Harvey by a margin of 80 to 17. But I think it is important to point out that Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Zionsville, was one of 17 senators to vote against this aid.
Wyoming Valley residents who lived through the ravages of Hurricane Agnes in 1972 and Hurricane Lee in 2011 know just how important that help is in the wake of a devastating storm. Shame on Pat Toomey for his heard-hearted vote at a time when Americans are suffering and in need.
