Luzerne County Community College will hold its 18th annual history conference, “The History of Northeastern Pennsylvania: The Last 200 Years” on Friday, October 17, beginning at 9 a.m., at the College’s Educational Conference Center. The theme of this year’s conference is “Women in Northeast PA’s Past.”
The conference will begin with the keynote presentation, “Woman’s History in Northeast Pennsylvania” by Josephine Dunn, professor of history at the University of Scranton. The morning session also will include a presentation on “Pennsylvanians of the Women’s Army Corps” by Martha Pezzino, assistant professor of history, LCCC and “Min Matheson and Northeast Pennsylvania’s Garment Industry” by Ken Wolensky, historian, Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission. The afternoon session, beginning at 1 p.m., will feature “Living History & Film: Frances Slocum - Child of Two Americas” presented by Florence Howanitz, local historian.
