The reunion is open to all former students, teachers, staff and friends of Seton Catholic, Pittston Central Catholic, and Saint John the Evangelist High School and Grade School. E-mail: setonsaintjohn@aol.com
The committee encourages groups to register together so they can reserve an entire table for them.
The committee has been meeting regularly with Karen Rosentel Evitts (class of 1980) as chair.
A “pub crawl” was staged where graduates visited some of the former “Johnnies” watering holes was somewhat successful, but a second crawl from Pittston to Duryea and Avoca was less successful.
At the June meeting held at Bo Brothers in Wyoming, committee members were surprised by the coincidental arrival of several former faculty members who transferred to Holy Redeemer. Jim Reddington, former Seton principal, was there too and offered access to alumni records to help the committee along.
One committee penned the following about the school:
No matter what name was on the outside of the building, the feeling inside remained constant. It was a deep feeling of faith, peace, family, security, friendship, and most of all love.
Every class that passed through the halls of Saint Johns, Pittston Central, or Seton felt this. Every student knew they could come to a place where they were accepted for who they are, celebrated for who they are, and loved by their fellow classmates and their teachers.
And, speaking of the teachers there is not enough that can be said about their dedication and undeniable love for their students. They are all true heroes who can never realize the positive impact they had on so many lives.
This school lives on in the hearts of so many. Generations have passed on the gift of sending their children to this school so that they could have the same wonderful experience.
Although the school has closed, the values and lessons learned live on.
Every time any teacher or student runs in to one another, a warm feeling fills their hearts. They share a common feeling that can only be known to someone who attended this wonderful place. It almost feels like a shared secret of knowing we were given the best.
The best religious and academic education, the best teachers, the best parents, and the best classmates.
We smile because of how lucky we feel. We smile because we know we are blessed.
