An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held today, February 21 at Germania Hose Company, Duryea, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The public is welcome.
The Knights of Columbus Assembly # 948 in Pittston will be holding an Afternoon at the Races today, Sunday, February 21 at the K of C Council Home, 55 South Main Street in Pittston.
Doors will open at 1:00 p.m. and post time is 2:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00 per person or free admission with the purchase of a horse.
Sponsor a horse for $10.

The 5th District Democratic Committee will sponsor a Petition-Signing Party on Thursday, February 25, from 7-9 at Valenti’s Restaurant, Wyoming Avenue in Exeter. Refreshments will be provided. The event will give Democratic voters the opportunity to sign nomination petitions for Democratic candidates.
Officers of the 5th District Democratic Committee are Wyoming Mayor Bob Boyer; Chairman, Mike Simko; Vice-Chairman, John Gilligan; Treasurer, and Debbie Troy; Secretary.
The Italian American Association of Luzerne County is holding its 2010 membership drive. If you are of, or married to someone Italian descent you are welcome to join thed social functions. Send your name, address and phone along with dues in the amount of $15.00 in a check made payable to the Italian American Association to the Italian American Association of Luzerne County, P.O. Box 842, Pittston, PA 18640.
Anyone residing in other counties also are welcome to join. The monthly meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at Genetti’s Best Western, Wilkes-Barre. If you would like any further information call President Herman Castellani at 654-6454.
The February meeting of the Hughestown Sports Club will be held today, Sunday, February 21. The meeting will be held at Granteed’s Tavern, 247 Parsonage St. Hughestown. The meeting will begin at 2:30. Club members are reminded that season ticket payments must be current. A few season tickets are available. Anyone expressing an interest may attend the meeting or contact any club member.
The Pittston High School Class of 1960 will meet today, Sunday, February 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Tony’s Pizzeria (downstairs), City Line Plaza, to discuss plans for their 50th reunion. All classmates are invited to attend.
The members of the Pittston Township Volunteer Fire Department announce that the Annual Fund Drive is underway. The fire department provides 24-hour-per-day firefighting and rescue services to residents of the township and its businesses. The annual fund drive is a means by which the department seeks financial assistance with the maintenance of the department’s firefighting and communication equipment, as well as protective clothing and breathing apparatus.
The members of the fire department are asking that each household in the township contribute $25 or more to this year’s drive. In addition, each business in the township is asked to make a contribution based on the size of that business. Everyone is asked to make their returns by March 1. If you have not received a donation request envelope in the mail, please call 654-2503 and one will be sent to you.
The Jacquelines will hold their February meeting on Tuesday, Fev. 23, at the Council Home, 55 South Main Street, Pittston, beginning at 8 p.m The theme for this meeting is a St. Patrick`s Day Celebration. The main topic will be the only fundraiser, the Lottery Project to be held in April and May. The proceeds are used to supplement the Home Association and special 45th Anniversary Dinner to be held in June.
Accounting students in Wilkes University’s Jay S. Sidhu School of Business and Leadership will offer free tax assistance to the public through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The service will be offered February 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in room 105 of Breiseth Hall, 137 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program offers free tax help to people with household income of less than $49,000 who file basic federal and state tax returns. Anyone interested in the service should bring the following items to the VITA site.

Pittston Memorial Library has a limited number of openings in its Toddler Time and Story Time programs. Both six-week programs feature age-appropriate stories, activities and free play in our children’s play room.
Toddler Time, open to 18-month– through 3-year-olds and their caregivers, will meet on Wednesdays, Feb. 24, March 3 and 10 at 10 a.m.
Story Time, open to 3– to 5-year-olds and their caregivers, will meet on Wednesdays, Feb. 24, March 3 and 10 at 1 p.m.
Wyoming Seminary Upper School will present a special Schoenberg Festival, offering instrumental and vocal music by Arnold Schoenberg, on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. in the Great Hall of Wyoming Seminary, 228 Wyoming Avenue, just north of Kingston Corners.
The concert begins at 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

St. John’s Class of “71” will have a meeting to discuss their upcoming 40th class reunion. The meeting will be held on Feb. 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. at Tony’s Wine Cellar , in the City Line Plaza in Port Griffith . All classmates are invited to attend.
The Music Box Repertory Company will hold auditions for “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” a new show about agoraphobia, adultery, ‘80s nostalgia, spray cheese, road kill, hysterical pregnancy, a broken electric chair, kleptomania, strippers, flan & disco…it’s everything a musical should be. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, February 24, at 7 p.m. Director John Owen Kennedy invites all adults ages 18 and over to audition. The cast consists of 5 women and 2 men, all roles are open. Please prepare a brief song and bring sheet music, an accompanist will be provided. Performance dates are April 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25.

The V.F.W. Post #4909 will hold their next meeting Monday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Post Home.
Many items of importance will be discussed and reports given. The Home Association meeting will follow. Food, refreshment and camaraderie will occur after both meetings.
The March Dinner Meeting of the Italian American Association of Luzerne County will be held on Thursday, March 18, at Genetti Hotel and Convention Center, Wilkes- Barre with arrival time at 6 p.m. Dinner served at 6:30 p.m.
Music by Mike Shema with dancing to 10:15 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. Reservation must be made by Friday, March 12.

The Dupont V.F.W. Post 4909 Home Association will hold its annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 13 at the Post Home 401-403 Main Street Dupont.
A dinner buffet will be served from 7:30 – 8:45 p.m. and “Gary Dee and Co” will be playing for your dancing and listening pleasure from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The bar will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Great door prizes will be awarded.

Applications are now being taken for the Music Box Theatre Academy, a musical theatre workshop for students ages 13 to 18. Tuition: $275. Sessions begin April 27.
Students will perform Disney’s High School Musical 2 on June 18, 19, and 20. Students will learn techniques in acting, singing and dancing.

The Music Box Repertory company is accepting applications for a Musical Director for “The Great American Trailer Park Musical.” Rehearsals will begin March 1 and will run through April 25.

A class reunion meeting was held at Jasmine Chechele Mikita’s home to make plans for the 60th class reunion, West Pittston High School, class of 1950.
The reunion will take place on Friday, August 20, at Glenmaura Country Club, with a pizza party at George Miller’s on Saturday, August 21, and brunch on Sunday, August 22, at a place to be decided on. Post cards were sent out to classmates informing them to “save theses dates” for the upcoming reunion.
The following committee members are George Miller, Janet Howell Dymond, Paul Minelli, Marie Nuzzalo Melvin, Muriel Phethan Allford, Jasmine Chechele Mikita, Angela Pellicotti, William Prebola, George Brown, Carmella Insalaco Dixon. The committee will have a meeting in April to complete plans for the reunion.
