Excursion to Jim Thorpe on train pulled by steam locomotive set Sept. 6

Looking for someplace to go on Labor Day Weekend? How about back in time?

On Sunday, Sept. 6, those interested can board a passenger train in Duryea for a round-trip excursion to Jim Thorpe. The train will be pulled by the fully restored No. 425 Baldwin Light Pacific Steam Locomotive.

The train will depart from Mr. Z’s parking lot in Duryea at 9 a.m. and return to Duryea approximately 6:45 p.m. There will be three and one-half hours of free time to enjoy the village of Jim Thorpe.

Tickets are $75 per person and may be obtained by sending a check payable to Greater Pittston Charity Steam Ride, c/0 47 Broad St., Pittston, PA 18640. Include name or names of persons wishing tickets, remittance of $75 per person, phone, address, and email address.

The train excursion is a fund raiser benefiting the Pittston Memorial Library, the Greater Pittston YMCA and the Care and Concern Free Health Clinic.

The train will run rain or shine and is non-smoking.

The train is operated by the Reading & Northern Railroad.
