WEST PITTSTON – Police searched the Wilkes-Barre residence of Stephen Bidgood Wednesday afternoon during an investigation of allegations made by a teenaged girl who said she was sexually assaulted.

Bidgood’s residence on North Empire Street was searched a day after a West Pittston police officer shot at Bidgood’s 1995 Jeep Wrangler in the parking lot of Antonio’s Pizza, Luzerne Avenue, just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
State police at Wyoming, which investigated the shooting, said in arrest records that Bidgood, 30, nearly struck officers Ryan Foy and Michael Turner when he attempted to escape in his vehicle.
Foy fired two shots that struck the Jeep’s tires, state police said. Bidgood was then apprehended.
Details about why police in West Pittston and Exeter Township were investigating Bidgood are unclear in arrest records.
A search warrant for Bidgood’s residence indicates police suspect he picked up the teen girl in the same parking lot on Monday and sexually assaulted her while he drove on state Route 92 and on a dirt road in Exeter Township.
Bidgood was charged on Wednesday with two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $50,000 bail.
No charges have been filed in connection with the alleged sexual assault.
Police were observed taking a computer tower and two boxes from Bidgood’s residence Wednesday afternoon.
According to the search warrant affidavit filed by West Pittston police and the arrest records filed by state police:
A teenaged girl told West Pittston police on Monday that she was sexually assaulted by a man known as “Chris.”
The girl claimed she met him when he sent her an instant message on the Internet about two weeks ago. “Chris” offered her $500 if she e-mailed him sexually explicit pictures, which she did.
Police were told that “Chris” e-mailed her information that indicated he deposited $500 in a Pay Pal account in the girl’s name.
She claimed the man offered her $1,000 if she had sex with him. She agreed and arranged to meet “Chris” in Antonio’s parking lot at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, according to the search warrant affidavit.
The girl said she got into a Jeep Wrangler and “Chris” drove on Route 92 while he forced her to perform a lewd act on him. He turned onto a dirt road in Exeter Township and placed his cell phone on the Jeep’s dashboard, telling the girl he was going to record their sexual encounter.
The girl said “Chris” said to her, according to the search warrant affidavit, “What if my real name isn’t Chris?”
Police said the girl was dropped off on Exeter Avenue before walking to the West Pittston Police Department to report the alleged sexual assault.
State police allege in arrest records that Bidgood was to meet an unnamed victim at Antonio’s Pizza on Tuesday night.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on June 24 in Central Court.

I highly disapprove of publishing the name of any person who ALLEGEDLY committed a sexual assault. I believe the identities of both victim and accused should be unpublished up until the time an individual is formally accused of the crime.

Our Children really don't understand the dangers they put themselves in. I don't think she asked to be assulted, but she did agree to meet him to be paid for sex. She placed herself in danger. How do we get teens to see that their behavior can have sever consequences?

This girl was certainly not innocent and knew what she was doing. Looking for some easy money and she should be charged with prostitution. Where are her parents?

Another fine example of police leadership. Is the chief of West Pittston going to stand by this officer? did he train him to shoot at cars? Looking at the recent Scranton shooting, police are trained to "shoot to kill". Ask the family of Brenda Williams. Did the West Pittston chief train his officer to kill the tires of the car? What about other people in the area? Did this officer not endanger other people by shooting at tires on a moving car? Let's see the cover up here. I hope the reader who wanted to make this west Pittston chief the "chief of the regionalized police" is watching what happens here. Let me know if you still want him. he might be busy training his officers to shoot tires though.

Lisa, no one knows the circumstances for this man either!!! yet his name, address and face are now plastered all over the internet because of this. In the article it states she AGREED to meet for sex for money, how is this judging this girl? The comments on here are related to facts from the news article. She should be charged with prostition, plain and simple, this mans life is in shamble because she agreed to have sex with him, by the way he too is wrong, but this girl is not a young teenager, she knows what she is doing. PayPal accounts, police stings, maybe she has done this before. She is putting herself out there, who is her next target? Your son? I agree with Chet her money head could have gotten this person killed! Or the police! She caused this mess charge her with the same offenses. Again she agreed to have sex with him for money! It's in the article, read it again!

Welcome back to town WP Resident...... This was an outstanding job performed by the officer who shot the tires. And who said that the chief wanted to be the chief of the regional department, ummmmmm. Keep the politics out of the WP police department. Thanks.

What was wrong with this shooting? Sounds to me the cop had good aim, and stopped a situation before it turned in to a high speed chase. No, it should not have happened, suspect should have just stopped, but I personally applude the cops for thier handling if the situation, they did not over react and kill the suspect. They stopped and apprehended him. She should be brought up on prostitution charges, and he should be released.

Are you serious?? She may have made some stupid decisions but i mean really? Come on, how could you stick up for this dirt bag.. If she knew what she was getting herself into I'm sure she wouldn't have agreed to anything. I give her credit for going to the police knowing that there would be people like you trying to get her put away for prostitution. As for you max, would you really like this pervert running around our town? This girl must be a mess, she's gone through a lot so you should probably leave this alone until you hear the whole story. Thanks, Anna
