Hearing on federal obstruction charge postponed to December

Times Leader staff

WILKES-BARRE – A preliminary hearing scheduled Friday for a Pittston businessman charged in the county corruption probe has been continued to December.

Barton Weidlich, who was charged with attempted obstruction of justice earlier this month, is now scheduled for a preliminary hearing in federal court, Wilkes-Barre, on Dec. 4.

Prosecutors allege Weidlich made veiled threats against a witness he suspected was wearing a concealed recording device.

He is currently restricted to home confinement at his mother’s house.

The only thing more disgusting than the people involved in the Luzerne County scandals is the lack of speed in bringing these people to trial and punishment. It still holds true; the well connected get special treatment.
