Police warn be wary of phone solicitations

The Pittston City Police Department issued a warning to local businesses and area residents. A few local businesses have reported that someone has been soliciting ads for the Police and Firemen’s Ball over the phone. The Pittston City Police and Fire Departments do not solicit ads over the telephone, police said.

If someone calls to solicit an ad, do not send or agree to pay for an ad. Area residents and business owners are urged to contact the Pittston City Police Department through 911 if someone attempts to solicit them.

The Pittston City Police and Fire Departments are sponsoring a Police and Firemen’s Ball on February 27 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Hall, William Street, Pittston. Letters were sent to local businesses for donations and would have been sent on an official letterhead, police said.
