Candidates for state office back in the late 1700s after independence didn’t have vans or powered megaphones, but they did campaign like Tom O’Connor does.
They put on their three-cornered hats and ruffled shirts and took it to the streets.
That’s what O’Connor did in Pittston on Friday afternoon.
O’Connor, a Republican candidate for the 118th legislative district is a lawyer from the Brodheadsville area in the Poconos.
The 118th is Mike Carroll’s seat and it includes Pittston.
O’Connor stopped his van along Kennedy Boulevard Friday and set up his homemade, rooftop soapbox of sorts and talked about his campaign for more personal liberty, lower taxes, states’ rights and less government.
“This is what you call a low-budget campaign,” O’Connor said. “I don’t have much money, so I’m taking it to the streets.”
