And finally …

On Columbus Day, there was a spaghetti dinner held at the Methodist Church sponsored by the Boy Scouts. It was one of those days when I wasn’t sure what to have for dinner when I remembered… hey, why cook when I can not only donate to a good cause and have a great meal at the same time.

I showed up without purchasing a ticket in advance and was graciously welcomed. The church was bustling with volunteers from the Boy Scouts and church members. It was volunteerism at its best and it reminded me of my childhood when civic organizations were abound.

I’m not so sure if that’s true today. I’ll have to do some research, but there were many back in a day. And for every male organization, there was a women’s auxiliary to go along. I realize that today is a different time and everyone is spread so thin. There is a lot of diversity and pressure that generations before had not witnessed. With that in mind, it may be harder to support many civic organizations.

There is a new face in West Pittston that is trying her darnedest to change that and for someone that never grew up in this town. I’d say she gets it. Anne Bramblett Barr, our new West Pittston Librarian, has had some pretty successful events and fundraisers to date with plenty more up her sleeve.

This past week, she called upon the Northeast Paranormal Society to put on a presentation called Paranormal Investigating 101. Folks, 110 people attended! That’s incredible!

Take a look at the rest of the fall schedule listed above in the library section to see if you’d like to get involved or attend one of the programs or fundraisers. Get involved by attending, donating and volunteering!
