Children’s Halloween Party at borough park Friday

The annual Children’s Halloween Party sponsored by Dupont Borough will be held this Friday, Oct.30, at the Pavilion in the Park from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This year’s Wild West Theme will feature a replica of old western style saloon, jail, stable and much more.

There will treat bags for the all ghosts and goblins. Refreshments of hot dogs, soda and water will be served.

The Dupont Lions Club will have safety stations again this year throughout the borough for all the trick and treaters on Saturday, Oct 31. The stations will be located at: Golembeski on the 300 block of Center Street, Kowalczyk’s on the corner of Hillside and Walnut Paddock’s on Holden Street, and Ziobro on Lackawanna Ave.

Hot chocolate and Halloween goodies will be served at the safety stations from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Property Owners

Gerry Chickeletti, Community Liaison of the Luzerne –Wyoming Counties Agency on Aging, has been invited to speak by the Dupont Property Owners on Wednesday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the municipal building. Topics will include, eligibility for in-house services, re-careering as a mature individual and long term living options.

Factors that will impact the financial future of the baby-boomers generation will also be discussed.

All local residents are welcome to attend this free informational session.

Holiday Food Drive

Holy Mother of Sorrows PNCC and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church have joined efforts to help feed those in need for the holidays. Each parish will be holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Food Cupboard in Pittston the first two full weekends in November starting on the weekend of November 7- 8 and 14- 15.

Containers will be placed in the back of the each church’s vestibule which will be open only during church services. If you are not able to bring your donations to church you can drop off your contribution anytime on the back porch of the parish rectory of Sacred Heart & Holy Mother of Sorrows.

Items requested by the Food Cupboard are: popular cereals, cans of carrots, peas, green beans, potatoes and corn; cans of chicken noodle, vegetable, beef noodle, pea and potato soups; boxes of Jell-o, cake mixes, puddings and containers of icing. Any donation will be greatly appreciated.

Cemetery Services

Cemetery Services will be held on Sunday, November 1 at Sacred Heart of Jesus and Holy Mother of Sorrows as follows: Sacred Heart will hold prayer services at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. and blessings at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.

Holy Mother of Sorrows will hold services at the parish cemetery beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Women’s Society

The regular monthly meeting of the Women’s Society of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will be held on Tuesday, November 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the church hall. A guest speaker from Bayada Nursing will be present to speak about the swine flu vaccine plus for those attending can have their blood pressures and blood sugars taken.

Please note for those planning to have their sugar checked, please fast at least one hour before the meeting. As always, new members are welcome.

VFW Meeting

The VFW Post 4909 will hold their next meeting on Monday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the post home. Many items of importance will be discussed and reports given. The Home Association meeting will follow. Food and refreshments will follow after both meetings.

Christmas Party

The Annual Christmas Party sponsored by Dupont Borough will take place on Saturday, Dec. 19 at the VFW Post 4909 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Reservations are now being accepted. Please contact the municipal office at 655-6216 to make your reservation and for additional information.

Low Income Help

Applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are available at the municipal office during regular business hours.

Lions Meeting

The Dupont Lions will hold a meeting on Monday, Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW Post Home on Main St. All members are urged to attend.

The Lions Club is holding lottery ticket dale for the Christmas Light project. For tickets you can contact Lion Bart Bryk at 654-7729.

The Lions Club would like to thank the community for supporting the White Cane Project recently held in the borough.
