Let’s get ready to monster mash!
The Duryea Recreation Board will have its annual children’s Halloween parade and party Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. The parade will begin at the Duryea V.F.W. Post 1227, 492 Stephenson St., and proceed to the new community park, which is located behind the Duryea Municipal Building.
Following the parade, the children will receive treats and refreshments.
All Duryea children are invited to attend.
Happy birthday to Lillian Goldstein who celebrated her special day October 22. Lillian is the proud mother of four children, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She loves to read, work on her computer, bike ride, and swim. Her family and friends wish her the best of everything.
Happy birthday to my mother, Lorraine Borthwick, who will celebrate her special day Monday, Oct. 26. And a happy birthday greeting also goes out to my brother, Tom, who will celebrate his special day Thursday, Oct. 29. I love you both very much!

The Duryea Lions Club still has a few corn brooms available for $10 each at Rehoski’s Market, 201 Foote Ave.
The parishioners of Sacred Heart of Jesus and St. Joseph’s Churches will have their fall and Christmas craft and gift fair today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Hall, Stephenson Street.
There will be a large variety of crafts and gifts available to choose from featured on two floors of vendors.
There will also be baked goods, a Chinese Auction, raffles, and food. Admission and parking are free. The public is invited to attend.
Duryea Cub Scout Pack 375 will have its Halloween party Monday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. The ghoulish activities for the fright night include a parade, prizes, games, food, and goody bags. For more information please call Ann Edwards at 457-8402.
The Duryea Ambulance and Rescue Association will have its monthly meeting Monday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the ambulance building, Marcy Street.
Ambulance and Rescue Association President Frank Bodosky will preside over the meeting.
Officers will be nominated at this time. All members are encouraged to attend.
The Duryea Wildcats will have a nomination of new board members meeting Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Wildcats field, rear Foote Avenue. The candidates will be voted for Thursday, Nov. 12.
The Crossin Towers Friendly Social Club will have a wimpie and hot dog luncheon Thursday, Nov. 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the community room of Frank P. Crossin Towers, 500 Brown St.
The menu includes your choice of a wimpie or a hot dog, potato chips, dessert, and a beverage. The lunches are $3.50 each. Takeouts will be available too.
The public is invited to attend. The chairperson for this event is Marie Chromey, and the co-chairperson is Paul Echalk.
Duryea V.F.W. Post 1227 will have its 52nd annual roast beef dinner Friday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 7 from 4-8 p.m. The menu will include roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, rolls and butter, and coffee or tea. Takeouts will be available too. Tickets are $8 each and can be purchased at the post home, 492 Stephenson St., or from any of the post officers: John Pliska, commander; John Wolfram, senior vice commander; Joseph Ziemba, junior vice commander; Thomas McGlynn, adjutant; David Komar, quartermaster; Adam Kilyanek, chaplain; Daniel Stella, surgeon; Henry Ostrowski, trustee; Robert Clarke, trustee; and Ronald Skamanich, service officer. The members ask that tickets be purchased early to ensure enough food is made for the dinner.
In other V.F.W. news … the members of Post 1227 are selling raffle tickets. For just $1 each, tickets holders will have a chance to win one of 60 prizes. Tickets can be purchased at the post home, 492 Stephenson St., or from any of the officers who are listed in the previous news brief.
The drawing will take place following the Veterans Day memorial services Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the post home.
The Duryea American Legion Brennan Regan Post 585 and the Duryea V.F.W. Post 1227 will sponsor a blood drive Sunday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the V.F.W., 492 Stephenson St.
Anyone who would like to schedule their donation time or volunteer for this cause can sign up at the American Legion, 329 Main St., or the V.F.W. Post 1227.
The Duryea American Legion Brennan Regan Post 585 Ladies Auxiliary will meet Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the post home, 329 Main St. All members are urged to attend.
The auxiliary would also like to remind families of auxiliary members to please update any membership statuses by calling the post at 457-4242 or mailing a note to the post home at 329 Main St., Duryea PA 18642.
The Duryea Lions Pride Den 4 will meet Tuesday, Nov. 10. For time and location information on how your son can join in the fun, please call Ann Edwards at 457-8402.
The ladies of St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church will have a takeout stuffed cabbage sale Friday, Nov. 13 from 3-6 p.m. in the lower level of the church, 200 Stephenson St.
The stuffed cabbages are $1.50 each.

The annual Duryea Wildcats Football and Cheerleading banquet is Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Best Western Genetti Hotel and Convention Center, Wilkes-Barre. Tickets are $22 for adults and $16 for children 10 years old and younger. Wildcat football players and cheerleaders will be admitted for free.
Please note tickets will not be sold at the door. For ticket information, please call Bonnie at 451-2689. Please note if any cheerleader or football player has not completed his or her yearly fundraiser, it will need to be paid before they can purchase tickets.
Duryea bingo takes place every Monday at the Germania Hose Company, 430 Foote Ave. The doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the games begin at 6:30 p.m. There is a guaranteed $1,000 jackpot every week.
