WEST PITTSTON
The West Pittston Parks and Recreation held their annual Christmas Caroling evening last weekend at the Christmas tree in the center of the Borough.

The West Pittston Boy Scout Troop 352 contributed along with the aid of the First United Methodist Church where children were able to make homemade ornaments. Cookies and hot chocolates were served at the conclusion of the caroling.
The Parks and Rec. Board thanks the Blaskeiwicz family, Ron Gitkos and PJ Adonizio for decorations on the tree.
Also, an extra thank you to Tom Blaskiewicz for the maintenance of the triangle and supplying extra goodies for all the kids.
A big thank you to the West Pittston Hose Company and Santa Claus for stopping by making the evening very special for the younger children.
The West Pittston Borough Council re-organization meeting will take place on Monday, January 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The regular council meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 5 at the regular time.
Wyoming Area Football Alumni will conduct a holiday party on January 8 at 6:00 p.m. at Marianacci’s Restaurant, West Wyoming. Food and a refreshments (cash bar) will be served.
The 2010 Ring of Pride class will be announced at that time. Also, the 40th reunion of the championship 1970 team will be discussed.

The fund drive letters have been sent out for the fire department.
The West Pittston fire department is 100% volunteer and donations mean everything to their survival.

The Wyoming Area Drama Club Parents will be holding their annual pasta dinner on Sunday, January 10, from noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Secondary Center Cafeteria.

WINTERfest at the West Pittston Library runs from December 1 through February 27, 2010. Events are as follows:
Beginner Yoga Classes: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. at the old American Legion Building at 316 Linden St., $7.00 drop-in. Discover the benefits of yoga. This class is geared toward students who are new to yoga or are returning to yoga after some time away. The slower practice allows time for students to explore proper alignment and breath, with a strong focus on range of motion, balance and flexibility. Poses will be modified for student’s unique body type and physical ability.
Craft Night: Wednesdays: 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Grab your knitting, crocheting, scrap booking, needlework, etc and enjoy an evening out hobnobbing with other craft enthusiasts. Coffee and tea will be provided, bring snacks if you want them.
Game Night: Thursdays: 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Gather up the family or a group of friends and head over to the library for some game board fun. Choose from Clue, Clue, Jr., Sorry!, Monopoly Jr., Life, Pictureka! and others! Interested in a card game? No problem. Grab some friends and your competitive spirit and head over.
Library Monthly Book Club: Tuesday, January 5; Tuesday, February 2. Join in for their January discussion of One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and their February discussion of The Liar’s Club by Mary Karr.
Post-Holiday Stress Buster: Wednesday, January 13, 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Let the students of McAnn School of Business and Technology rub away the stress of the holidays or give you a quick pick-me-up. The cost is $5.00 for a 10-minute chair massage. Proceeds benefit the West Pittston Library.

A message from George Miller, West Pittston Tax Collector: All county, borough and school taxes are in the penalty period and are due for collection before December 31, 2009. After the December 31, taxes will be turned over to the County Courthouse for collection.

Drop-off collection for recycling is every Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Public Works Facility, 505 Delaware Ave. Curbside recycling days are the first and third Thursdays. Recycling materials consist of commingled which includes glass, plastic and jars. Place these items together in recycling container.
Please place newspapers in brown paper bags.
All businesses are mandated to recycling.
