HUGHESTOWN NEWS
The State Fire Commissioner has recognized the Hughestown volunteer fire department as a participating member of the Pennsylvania Fire Services Certification Program.
At the Council meeting, the 2010 budget was read. The budget is $311,000 and will have no increase in taxes.
The budget will once again be read at the December 14 meeting and voted on.
A copy of the budget will be available in the borough building after the budget is officially passed. A change in the sewer fund will be increased to $50 per year to help in case of a crisis.
Residents are reminded there will be no more grass or leaves picked up. Starting next Wednesday ashes will be picked up.
Remember to contact St. Peter’s Lutheran church for your poppy seed and nut rolls on November 23 from 12 to 4 p.m. in the church hall.
Act 32 Earned Income Tax meeting was held. Appointed as chairman was John Bolin; co-chairman is Bob Linskey; secretary/ treasurer will be Steve Hahn.
Solid Waste Management meeting was held discussing plans for upcoming year. Total tons recycled in 2008 as reported was 142,185 tons. Landfill space saved by recycling was 207,064 cubic yards. Net gas saved in gallons was 18,637,952 gallons.
Omitted from last week’s article: John Poli as Tax Collector tallied 362 votes.
John Poli reminds all taxpayers who have not paid their 2009 School taxes that Monday November 23 will be the last day for tax collections at face value. After this date the penalty value will be in effect.
Office hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. at the Boro Building, or by appointment. Mondays only.
The Hughestown Lions Club will meet Monday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hughestown Hose Company.
President Steve Golya will preside. On the agenda will be the plans for the upcoming visit on December 21 to St. Joseph’s home to decorate and deliver gifts to the residents.
All members are asked to attend the meeting.
