Dupont Property Owners to meet Wednesday

The Dupont Property Owners’ Association will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, November 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Dupont municipal office. Guest speaker will be Gerry Chickeletti, Director of the Senior Employment Program. All residents are welcome to come and listen to the speakers.

Also speaking at this meeting will be a state trooper to address some of the recent concerns regarding Megan’s Law and questions that have come up at Association meetings. This organization has been chartered since 1935. Several concerned residents have resurrected the Association to serve the community. Dues: $1.00 a month. Officers: Bernie McDonald-President, Martha Doran-Vice-President, Shirleen Jones-Secretary and Bernie Zielinski-Treasurer.

Food Drive

Holy Mother of Sorrows PNCC and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church have joined efforts to help feed those in need for the holidays. Each parish will be holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Food Cupboard in Pittston the first two full weekends in November starting on the weekend of November 7 - 8 and 14 - 15.

If you are not able to bring your donations to church you can drop off your contribution anytime on the back porch of the parish rectory of Sacred Heart and Holy Mother of Sorrows.

Items requested by the Food Cupboard are: popular cereals, cans of carrots, peas, green beans, potatoes and corn; cans of chicken noodle, vegetable, beef noodle, pea and potato soups; boxes of Jell-o, cake mixes, puddings and containers of icing.

Election Day

Remember to get out and vote. This Tuesday, November 3 is Election Day. Polls are open at 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Voting will take place at the Dupont Municipal Building, 600 Chestnut Street, for all three wards.

VFW Auxiliary

Due to the elections on November 3 the Ladies Auxiliary of the Przybytek-Kundlas VFW Post 4909 will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the post home. Hostesses will be Mary Vargo and Maureen Knick.

Polish Women

The Polish Women’s Alliance of America, Council #44 recently held their annual fundraiser raffle. The lucky winners were: 1st Prize- Dorothy Talipski; 2nd Prize- Margie Milewski, 3rd Prize- Madison Mullen, and 4th Prize- Mary Kilyanek.

The organization would like to thank all who purchased tickets for this raffle.

The P.W.A.A., Council #44 will be hosting a Christmas Party on Sunday, November 22, a Genetti’s in Wilkes Barre. For further information contact Arlene Skrzysowski at 654-8471. Membership is open to any interested individual.

Cemetery Services

Cemetery Services will be held on today, November 1 at Sacred Heart of Jesus and Holy Mother of Sorrows as follows: Sacred Heart will hold prayer services at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. and blessings at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Holy Mother of Sorrows will hold services at the parish cemetery beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Women’s Society

The regular monthly meeting of the Women’s Society of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will be held on Tuesday, November 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the church hall.

VFW Meeting

VFW Post 4909 will hold their next meeting on Monday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the post home.

Low Income Help

Applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are available at the municipal office during regular business hours.

AmVets Fundraiser

Member of the AmVets Post 189 will be present before and after all Masses next weekend, November 7 & 8 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church selling ‘Clovers” to help local veterans.

Holiday Lights

On Sunday, November 15 the Dupont Lions will kick off the holiday season with the placing of the holiday lights. The new snowflakes made the debut last year thanks to the generosity of the community. The organization will be adding a few more snowflakes this year. The Lions Club is currently selling lottery tickets to help with costs of their many projects, such as, Christmas Lights and Easter Egg Hunt. If your organization is interested in purchasing a snowflake contact Tony Draus at 466- 7963.

Christmas Party

Dupont Borough is accepting reservations for the Christmas party to be held Saturday, Dec. 19, at the VFW Post 4909 from 1:00 to 3:00. Please call the municipal office at 655-6216 with the child’s name, age and address and number of people attending.

Dinner-Dance

Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association will hold its 64th anniversary dinner dance on Saturday, November 7 at the post home. For tickets and reservations see Bob Lopata at the VFW or call Bob at 654-9104. Deadine is Friday, November 6.

Council Meeting

Dupont Borough Council will meet in executive session on Tuesday, November 10 at 6:30 p.m. prior to the Council Meeting at 7:00 p.m. to discuss personnel and legal matters.

Service Schedule

Dupont Service schedule for the week of Nov. 1 is as follows:

Monday, Nov.2 – refuse blue bags

Tuesday, Nov.3 – yard waste – 30 lb. limit.

Wednesday, Nov.4 - recycling cans & bottles

The Dupont Public Works Dept. asks resident to please be mindful of the weight restriction on yard waste.

Additional refuse bags are available for purchase at the Hub One on Bear Creek Rd.
